September 16th is a really special day at North Broward Insurance Solutions: I’m turning a year older today (so the office hours are limited—you’ll probably be able to find me at happy hour, though, if you need some help), it’s Mexican Independence Day today (contrary to the popular American belief that it falls on May 5th) and It’s national Play Doh Day!
We all remember that salty tinge on the back of our tongues when we decided to taste just a tiny piece of that bright pink miracle dough…don’t we? Having been manufactured since 1955, Play Doh is a staple in American culture. It’s non-toxic, it doesn’t stain, it’s relatively safe to eat (while we know that’s not it’s intended use) and it’s simple to recreate at home with a few simple ingredients.
Borrowed from mom.me, here is a crazy simple DIY play doh recipe that you can put together for yourself and little hands in just a few minutes:
- 4 Cups Flour
- 2 Cups Salt
- 4 Cups Water
- 4 tbs. Cream of Tartar
- 6 tbs. Vegetable Oil
- Food Coloring (Gel works best)
- Add all of the ingredients to a big pot and continuously stir on the stove over medium heat until everything is combined. It’ll look lumpy, but eventually stiffen up.
- Transfer the dough to a bowl and knead until it’s soft.
- Play away, my friends!
All the while, I’m sitting here wondering whether Hasbro needs to carry product liability insurance on this stuff given the fact that it’s so non-toxic. If I decide to call and ask, I’ll edit the post.
Did you know? In the 2010 movie How Do You Know, Paul Rudd’s character tells the story of Play Doh’s origins to Reese Witherspoon’s character, saying: “I have kept this for a long time as proof that we’re all just one small adjustment away from making our lives work.”
With all of this in mind, have fun today. Your favorite insurance agent and your toddler will—so don’t sweat the small stuff!
If you do need some help today, don’t hesitate to call North Broward Insurance Solutions on our after hours number at (786)440-8242. I won’t be binding any coverage in my state of mind, but I’ll certainly be able to answer any questions you may have.
