We’re all well aware that South Florida has two seasons: Summer, and not Summer. Having been a life-long resident of Coral Springs and moving just two miles away to North Lauderdale as an adult, I’ve come to the conclusion that “Fall,” as a season, is a mythological creature that I’ve yet to experience.
Leaves changing deep browns and reds and falling off of trees are an illusion from my mind. The worst parts about September and October in my opinion are that it’s still hot and humid, but the days are shorter (not a win). We’re also much more susceptible to hurricane activity in the Atlantic Ocean. Woo.
The best part about the autumn season all over America is the great aroma of pumpkin coming from every coffee, donut and bagel shop you can think of. Pumpkin Lattes from Starbucks, Pumpkin frosted donuts from Dunkin and Pumpkin spread for the delicious bagels from Einstein are another reason to pack on the pounds and put away the bikini after the summer.
Does it not seem like these staples of our dreams and thoughts are premature? Is it typical to roll out these very Fall-like offerings in the first few days of September?
Before we know it, we’ll be decorating our Christmas trees a few days before Halloween at this rate.
Even Pinterest is a-buzz with delicious staples like Pumpkin Pancakes, Chicken Cider Stew from Kitchen Parade, Clean Eating Pumpkin Butter(definitely one of the healthiest choices!), and Pumpkin Layered Cheesecake. I will also be redecorating my home every other day until December when the Christmas decorations come out. What did we do without Pinterest?
Lets not even start talking about the Shipyard Pumpkin Head….
The best part of Fall, in the glamorous world of insurance that is, is the close of hurricane season. Around the world, it’s impossible to bind a property policy during a named storm, and that really delays business in the Fall season.
Check out the following tips on keeping your home maintained through the fall months:
- Even in Florida, the leaves fall off and die in the Fall (they just don’t look very visually appealing). Keep a fire extinguisher handy near your door or in your garage in case of any Fall time foul play.
- Fall is a great time to assess any damage to your home or roof and clean out those gutters!
- Many Florida homes have fireplaces. If you live in one of them–get that thing cleaned before you start using it!
- By turning your central heat on once a month for a few minutes, you should burn off the dust and other airbornes that cause the burning smell the first time you turn it on in the year–usually in the Fall.
While I sip away at my pumpkin lattes and peck on a plethora of pumpkin flavored dishes, I’ll be able to meet all of your insurance needs in Margate, Coral Springs, North Lauderdale, Pompano and beyond.
